CREATING THEATRE IN A VIRTUAL SPACE

CREATING THEATRE IN A SAFE SPACE

Wonder Jones Productions is a collective of talented artists who are willing to take risks and explore new forums to keep theatre alive! Our team is comprised of talent from across Canada, and opportunities are not limited by how individuals self-identify. Our collective represents our community.

Time Limits Dropped on Easter Sunday was inspired by family memories and the regret of not having the opportunity to get to know a loved one. It was especially written for the digital Fringe Festival.

Four friends from a bereavement group meet virtually for the Easter long weekend. They decide to try an Artificial Intelligence program to animate pictures of their departed loved ones. To their surprise, delight and horror, they discover more than they bargained for. The experience brings a ton of emotion and an opportunity to say the things they wanted to say if they had one more chance.

Our team adapted their performance to working in separate spaces during the provincial stay-at-home order. The lack of a physical stage created the opportunity for the playwright, director, creative team and actors to envision ways to develop and produce the show while honouring the live aspect of theatre.

Keeping our artists safe is top-of-mind while providing a place to "play". The teamwork and creativity has been fantastic, with everyone coming forward with creative ideas, props and costumes from the safety of their own spaces.

Wonder Jones Productions was created to produce theatrical content that is inclusive and respectful to our whole community, with a focus on creating stories that demonstrate humanity and dignity for the Black community and BIPOC artists.  We have created an accessible space and have worked to remove barriers with the assistance of the Fringe teams.

From adversity comes great humanity and creativity.

Thank you to the Time Limits Dropped on Easter Sunday team!
